Saudade Sweet Tureen
Named for the thing the Portuguese do better than anyone — missing something that may never have existed the way you remember it. The figures on the surface tell the story in sequence: the voyage, the separation, the tongues wagging in the background, the knock at the door you feel in your chest. Lift the lid. Take a sweet. Works as a tureen, a sweet bowl, a coffee table object that asks to be looked at.

MATERIALS
Clay, water, food-safe glaze.
Antonio grew up between Mozambique and Portugal, drawing comic books and watching his grandmother make ceramics. He studied Fine Arts in Lisbon, then 3D Animation in Bournemouth. Spent years in advertising. He was good at it. He was also in the wrong place. So he left —learned ceramics in depth, found a studio in Lisbon with good light, and opened Galeria Escultórica to share his art and passion for sculpture with you.
antonio answers your questions
Is the glaze food-safe?
Yes, for all functional pieces — cups, terrines, jugs. The interior glaze is food-safe and kiln-fired at 1200°C. For sculptural pieces with decorative exterior glazes, avoid prolonged contact with acidic liquids on the outside surface.
How do I look after it?
Hand wash is kinder than the dishwasher — hot water, dish soap, dry with a cloth. Unglazed bases can darken slightly on damp surfaces over time. That's the piece settling in, not damage.
Can I commission something similar?
Antonio occasionally takes commissions. He won't make the same piece twice — but he'll make you something in the same universe. Contact him to share your ideas.
How is it packaged?
Antonio packs every piece himself, individually, before it ships. Fragile pieces are double-wrapped and boxed. If it arrives damaged, photograph it immediately and contact Antonio.
Do you ship internationally?
Within Portugal, yes — 3 to 5 business days as standard. For international shipping, contact Antonio before purchasing so he can confirm packaging, cost, and timing. Don't just order and hope — some pieces are fragile enough to need specific arrangements.
Can I collect from the studio?
Yes. Rua dos Lusíadas 113A, Alcântara. If you visit during studio hours you'll likely find him there — and you'll see the rest of the work too.
Can I return it?
Because each piece is one-of-a-kind, returns are not possible. If something arrives damaged, contact Antonio. He'd rather sort it than leave anyone disappointed.
